YLE's and NRK's regional stations

In the beginning of this year I have been especially interested in the stations located next to me. It has been a great pleasure to listen FM and MW bands with the Sangean. At first i want to inform that two Norskrikskringkasting's transmitter are catchable on MW. 630 kHz located in Vigra (100 kW) and 675 kHz located in Rost (20 kW). even though the DX-news were tolding that Vigra will close down permanently in the end of last year. The best of all is that NRK has local programs at least in the hours during the local morning time.

About the YLE, I have received 5 regional stations broadcasting on FM based in Oulu, Kokkola, Kuopio, Kajaani and Tampere. All of them has QSLed already with a full data QSL letters by e-mail. The biggest surprise was the telephone interview made by Kainuun Radio about the radio hobby and listening the distant broadcasts. It's always a pleasure to make the hobby better-known.

In fact Kainuun Radio, located in the northern part of Finland is one of the most difficult catches here, next morning I received an another YLE station Radio Extrem located in Esbo, South Finland on the same frequency so it's all about the conditions. I have reported also stations based in Mikkeli and Lahti in the year 2002 and they verified by the letter.

QSLed WLAM 1470 AM

WLAM is a part of Nassau Broadcasting in Maine, the United States of America. WLAM broadcasts nationwide ESPN program for Lewiston Auburn (L-A) with local station identifications. The transmitter is located in 'L-A' but the headquarters are based in Portland. I was able to catch their signal several times during the season 2005-2006 with my 350 meters long wire pointing towards the USA. The signal was usually weak but I heard many clear station identification, unfortunately without call letters. Same time I received usually WEGP 1390 AM from Maine, too. Maine is located in the East Coast of the United States and it's the easiest state to hear in the Europe for sure.

The sister stations are the Wolf 99.9 MHz, the Frank 107.5 MHz and Bone Radio. My reception report was verified by Mr. Steve Mondor and Mr. Chuck Homler by e-mail. The sister stations are visitable in www.999thewolf.com, www.1075frank.com and www.boneradio.com. Instead the WLAM's own website is without the details. There are only mentioned the partnership with Nassau Broadcasting.

QSLed - Radio Rio Mar, Manaus. Brazil

This is a good example how a radio station should be reacted to the listeners' reception reports. Radio Rio Mar is one of the first brazilian radio stations received in my QTH. I heard it 2002 but reported 2006 when I finally started to use e-mail reports.

After six months I received an e-mail from Mrs Izabel Matos with a verification text in Portuguese and enclosed with several photos from Radio Rio Mar studios and equipment.

In the beginning of January 2008 I got a new friend from Brazil in my msn. It seemed to be a new secretary of Radio Rio Mar. She was reading the old mails and found my reception report aswell. So she decided to add me. Later they have done some special programmes for me which I was able to listen via webstream. In the end of 2007 Radio Rio Mar opened its' new website www.riomaronline.com.br where is possible to listen to the webstream.

It's a part of Rio Mar Foundation which is a Catholic organisation working in Amazonas region. Radio Rio Mar broadcasts on 9695 kHz in the 31 mb, 6160 kHz in the 49 mb and 1290 AM in the medium wave band.
